I was introduced to the world of Chinese boxing through a friend in 1984. I became mesmerized with the Art & began my own journey of formal study which I continue today.

Karate Training- Canada Goju (1997-2007) Meibukan (2008-present)

As one of Sensei Matthews first students I am privileged to have had the opportunity to evolve along with the dojo, participating in numerous seminars & events along the way.

My areas of interest include mind/body connection, personal safety/self-defense with a special focus on women & children.
In 2004, I received the rank of Shodan & in 2008 Nidan, respectively.

Sempai Kao Saechao
4th Degree Black Belt

Started Gojuryu training in 2001 in Elora under Sensei Jay Purdy and switched to Meibukan Gojuryu in 2003 under Sensei Steve Lynch in Alliston and recieved my Shodan in 2007. In 2009 recieved my Nidan under Sensei Mark Matthews in Guelph. I have been very fortuante and honoured to train with Hanshi Meitatsu Yagi and his eldest son Renshi Akihito Yagi on numerous occassions, and also trained with Renshi Ken Trebilcock in Brantford.

I Started training in Karate for the physcial activity but have found it is now a passion, I love the personal challenges of trying to perfect a kata, and then pulling it apart for the possible self defence applications (bunkai). I also love the spiritual aspect, and self disipline in karate, and meeting some great people along the way. I have found a second family in Meibukan.
Favourite quote - , "do not put your main purpose in mastering the Karate techniques themselves, you should instead study the way of life through Karate." - Dai-Sensei Yagi
